Case Summary: 12 crewmembers onboard presented with fever, diarrhea, and shivering. Physician Advisory was provided for monitoring onboard. The symptoms resolved under remote physician treatment and all crewmembers resumed normal duties onboard. Examinations ashore were not necessary for any crewmember. Results: Possible quarantine of the vessel was avoided, including elimination of potential fines for regulatory infraction and associated legal expenses; crew replacement costs / unseaworthy crew compliment avoided; avoided incurring daily running costs and increased agency costs while under actual quarantine; delays in cargo discharge, next charter cancellation, etc.
